The stock market dropped below 2,800, hotel sector gains

 


AUG 12, Kathmandu – On Tuesday, the stock market index fell below 2,800 points. Compared to the previous day, today the NEPSE index decreased by 26.22 points.

 After this drop, NEPSE settled at 2,796 points. Although the market managed to hold steady for the first 15 minutes after opening, it remained in the red thereafter. Prices of 24 companies increased, while 225 decreased, and 1 remained unchanged. 

 The total transaction amount also declined. On the previous day, transactions amounted to NPR 10.21 billion, but today it was limited to NPR 6.91 billion. 

 Except for the hotel and tourism sector, all other group indices fell. The hotel and tourism group increased by 1.32 percent. Banking fell by 0.94%, development banks by 0.76%, finance by 1.53%, hydropower by 1.26%, investment by 0.66%, life insurance by 1.06%, manufacturing and processing by 1.00%, microfinance by 1.49%, non-life insurance by 0.81%, others by 0.62%, and trading by 0.86%. 

 The price of City Hotel increased by 10 percent. This rise occurred after price adjustment for the issuance of the company’s rights shares. The company is issuing rights shares at an 80% ratio.

 Similarly, the price of Samaj Laghubitta rose by 4.34% and Kalika Power by 2.37%. The price of Sikles Hydropower fell by 10%. Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta fell by 8% and Laxmi Laghubitta by 6.14%. 

 Today, the companies with the highest transaction volumes were Nepal Reinsurance, Himalayan Reinsurance, Lumbini Development Bank, Shivam Cement, and Butwal Power, respectively.
